Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman today reviewed flood relief works in Kodagu. Sitharaman was accompanied by the AOC-in-C Training Command, who briefed her on the relief efforts being undertaken as part of the Karnataka Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) Operations.

Earlier in the day, she landed in Mysuru and proceeded to Harangi by helicopter. The minister undertook a road recce of the affected areas, along with army officials and officials from the state government. After completing the survey, the minister proceeded to Mysuru by helicopter and later left for Chennai by an IAF Embraer aircraft.

On Thursday, 950 kg of relief material and medicines were airlifted from Mysuru to Harangi, for dispatch to the flood affected areas of Kodagu district. On Wednesday, 14,000 kg of relief material was airlifted from Air Force Station Yelahanka to Mysuru by four AN-32 aircraft in eight sorties. Further, 5,600 kg of relief material was transported by helicopter from Mysuru to Harangi, for distribution in district.

The minister in-charge of Kodagu district, S R Mahesh, along with a team of state government officials, also undertook an aerial recce of the flood affected area. A total of 4:20 hrs in eight sorties were flown by helicopters and 11:30 hrs in eight sorties were flown by transport aircraft.
