Saritha S Nair, one of the two main accused in the solar panel scandal, on Monday submitted three audio CDs to the Solar Scam Enquiry Commission, which she claimed contained her conversations with people close to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.
Of the three, one is a Congress MLA, another is a general secretary of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee, and the third a former personal security guard of the Chief Minister, who was later sacked in the wake of the scandal. The first two have for long been members of Chandy’s faction within the Congress party. The commission accepted the CDs as formal evidence.
The CDs, which a couple of TV channels played, showed each of the three trying to influence Saritha to withhold information regarding the solar scam or to hoodwink investigators and the court. In one, Saritha asks for money and support from the MLA in order hide certain facts.
Over the fortnight, Saritha has made startling allegations and revelations that have shaken the ruling United Democratic Front government. She has also claimed that she had paid ₹1.90 crores to Chandy’s middleman.
The CDs seem to back some of the claims Saritha has made before the commission. They reveal that the managers of the Chandy government had made desperate attempts to eclipse the solar scam.
