Texpreneurs’ Forum has initiated a drive to sensitise the spinning industry about the use of LED.

It has formed a consortium to procure LED and install them in all spinning mills in the State, D Prabhu, Secretary of Texpreneurs’ Forum, told BusinessLine .

“Over 53 mills have already evinced interest to install LED in the respective units,” he said, sharing a comparative study of LED tubes vis-à-vis fluorescent tubes.

“Energy consumption of a tube and choke is 36+4 W, whereas LED consumes just 50 per cent of this at 18+1 W. Consequently, the power cost per tube per year at ₹6.5/Kw works out to ₹2,277 whereas by using LED tube, the power cost would stand reduced to ₹1,082 per year.

“Though the cost of LED light is almost three times that of a fluorescent tube, the latter does not come with warranty, whereas LED light has a three-year warranty,” he said, adding that with interest on additional investment (for LED light), the payback period would be just eight months.

The State government’s decision to reduce VAT should incentivise mills to move to LED tubes, he said, vowing to educate the mill sector on the benefits of installing LED.
