Over 500 drivers registered with the car rideshare firm Uber have alleged that the firm failed to meet its commitment on business and giving incentives.

They held a dharna at the Uber headquarters at the HICC here and raised slogans against the firm’s management on Tuesday.

Telangana Cabs and Bus Operators Association President Syed Nizamuddin has said the drivers protested for three hours and demanded that the firm honour its commitment made to them.

“Sensing the angry mood of the drivers, the Uber management offered to talk with the protestors. They sought two days time to resolve the issue,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.

The drivers alleged that Uber had enrolled them has lured them by promising a monthly income of about ₹70,000. “But they are not getting not more than a month due to drastic reduction in incentives and number of rides,” Ninamuddin said.

The firm had roped in about 15,000 drivers in the city, giving them a ‘joining incentive’ of ₹5,000 and another ₹5,000 for those who referred others to join the network.

“Most of the drivers, who were working with different cab operators, have quit their regular jobs and joined Uber with the hope that they would earn a decent income. Their dreams were now shattered,” Syed Nizamuddin said.

Nizamuddin announced that the drivers would intensify their protest if the Uber management fails to come out with a concrete solution by Thursday.
