US Ambassador to India Richard Rahul Verma has said bilateral strategic and economic ties between both countries will continue to soar under the new American President Donald Trump even as he assumes office in January.

"We must always remember that irrespective of which administration comes in, a strong and prosperous India is in US' strategic interest," Verma said at an event organised by FICCI on the outcome of US Elections under the new American administration.

Verma said ties with India will continue to soar higher in all aspects as it enjoys a bipartisan support, which is supportive of enhanced India-US ties.

He said there will be renewed convergence on issues related to counterterrorism and political issues when US undergoes a regime change.

Verma said defence ties, in particular, will see greater expansion. He said ever since India and US signed the Defence Framework Agreement, exports of military hardware from US to India has reached a whopping $15 billion.

On two-way trade in goods and services, Verma said the new administration realises India's importance and recognises the fact that US is India's topmost export destination with bilateral trade reaching $110 billion.

"Vision of India as only an outsourcing destination is somewhat an outdated view," he added.

Verma also said both sides have set "lofty goals" and both will continue to pursue it.
