Gujarat plans to set up a satellite-linked disaster warning system along its coastline to alert fishermen during adverse weather conditions, a senior official of that state said today.
“We are looking at setting up a satellite-linked disaster warning system which can help us disseminate information to our fishermen on adverse weather conditions,” V Thiruppugazh, Executive Director, Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority, told reporters here.
He said the feasibility report for the project was ready and the government was working towards its implementation.
The project would help the government coordinate with other agencies effectively during adverse weather conditions, he said.
Earlier, he delivered a lecture on ‘Communication in Disaster Response’ organised by the National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) here.
