Mr S.K. Shivakumar has taken charge as the new Director of ISRO Satellite Centre, Bangalore.
Mr Shivakumar, Distinguished Scientist, has been its Associate Director since 2010. He succeeds Dr T.K. Alex, who has superannuated, an ISRO statement said.
ISAC designs and fabricates ISRO's communications and remote sensing satellites, besides testing and integrating them.
Mr Shivakumar began his career with the ISRO Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network in 1976 and later worked at ISAC for 20 years. He was ISTRAC Director during the Moon mission of 2008 and helmed the realisation of its brain, the Deep Space Network.
At ISAC he was on key satellite missions and led the successful remote sensing satellite missions IRS-1B and IRS-1C.
A graduate from Mysore University, he did his BE in electrical communications engineering and M. Tech in physical engineering from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. The University of Mysore has awarded him an honorary doctorate.
