The Railways, which won 25 medals in the Commonwealth Games and 15 medals in the Asian Games, have sent 12 sportspersons to participate in the London Olympics.
The 12-member railway team part is one of the biggest contingents from a single organisation in the country.
Shushil Kumar (66 kg freestyle wrestler) from the Northern Railway will be official flag bearer of the Indian contingent.
Other sportspersons participating in London Olympics from the Railways include Krishna Punia (discus), Gurmeet Singh (20 km walk race), Jaydeep Karmakar (shooting), Manoj Kumar (64 kg boxing) and Narsingh Yadav (74 kg freestyle wrestling) among others, an official said.
The Railway Ministry has also sanctioned an amount of Rs 2 lakh for each of the 12 participants in recognition of consistent pursuance in achieving this feat, he said.
