Insisting that the “peaceful chakka jam” or “peaceful strike” will continue, truckers are demanding removal of toll barriers.
Seeking alternative methods of toll collection, the All India Motors Transport Corporation (AIMTC) has suggested imposing an additional ₹1-2 a litre cess on diesel that can be routed towards a toll-barrier free India.
“We will continue with our peaceful strike,” said Bal Malkit Singh, former President and Chairman, Core Committee, AIMTC.
The impact of strike is beginning to be felt in some locations, according to the Indian Foundation of Transport Research Training.
There are unconfirmed reports of truck drivers being forced to participate in the strike. Several players including large companies, are not supporting the strike.
