‘Visa on arrival’ service will soon be available at international airports in Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi.

The Centre has given the required approvals for introduction of the service at these airports, said State Tourism Minister A.P. Anil Kumar .

PREPARATIONS ON

Preparations for implementing the service at the two airports are currently under way, he added.

It will allow citizens from 11 countries – Japan, Singapore, Finland, Luxembourg, New Zealand, the Philippines, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Myanmar and Indonesia – to obtain tourist visas upon arrival here.

The Minister hoped that the new scheme and the convenience it offered would encourage more tourists from these countries to travel to Kerala.

5 AIRPORTS

The decision to introduce the service at five airports in the country, including Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi, was taken at the third meeting of the inter-ministerial committee on tourism.

This was, however, subject to approval from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. Mullapplly Ramachandran, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, has since stated that the go-ahead had been granted.

Union Minister State for Civil Aviation K.C. Venugopal is now spearheading efforts to put in place the facilities required to implement the visa on arrival service at the two airports.

The groundwork is nearing completion and the service will soon be available for tourists, Anil Kumar said.
