A grand wedding themed on Indian tradition, complete with a musical fountain, at a newly opened convention centre with nearly 5,000 invitees promises to make Akash Ambani’s nuptials a spectacular show.

Akash Ambani, son of India’s richest man Mukesh Ambani, is getting married to his childhood friend and fiancée Shloka Mehta, daughter of Mona and Russell Mehta, here on Saturday. The invitee list is much similar to the one for Akash’s twin sister Isha’s wedding to Piramal Group scion Anand Piramal last December.

Glitterati parade

Celebrities and high-profile business magnates, including family friend Amitabh Bachchan and actors Shahrukh Khan and Aamir Khan among others are expected to attend the big-fat wedding with their families.

The country’s top industrialists, including Ratan Tata and Kumar Mangalam Birla, politicians such as Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray, and sports stars such as Sachin Tendulkar are also expected, sources briefed on the matter told BusinessLine .

Ambani family’s - matriarch Kokilaben, younger brother Anil and family, his sisters and family – will have special places reserved at the venue.

The venue

Unlike Isha’s home wedding, which took place at Mukesh Ambani’s residence Antilia, the venue for Akash’s wedding is a convention centre – Jio World Centre – at Bandra Kurla Complex, which was inaugurated on March 6. The centre was inaugurated by Mukesh Ambani’s wife Nita Ambani, in the presence of underprivileged children without any celebrity presence.

A 7,600 sq ft musical fountain, located at 38,000 sq ft Dhirubhai Ambani Square inside the convention centre, is perhaps the largest attraction at the venue. The multi-coloured, illuminated fountain has eight fire shooters that can spit water up to 78 feet, 60 mist emitters, 400 water nozzles and 10 synchronised music speakers. The decor and marriage has been themed on Indian tradition, with the venue and milieu decorated with images and props of peacocks and horses.

The baraat for the grand wedding will start from the premises at 4 pm, followed by a musical show of the fountain, and then ceremonies and dinner, with the bidaai slated for midnight.

More receptions

On Sunday, the Ambani family will host a reception for employees, business partners and special invitees, including defence personnel. A total of 7,000-10,000 members from Navy, Air Force, Fire Force, Mumbai Police and CRPF, have been invited with their families.

A special musical fountain show is also part of the function. As a special gesture, Mukesh Ambani has already sent about 50,000 boxes of sweets to Mumbai Police officials.

On Monday, a reception has been lined up for media. Going by these, Akash Ambani's wedding is not likely to be a lesser extravaganza than that of Isha’s.
