New Projects Le Meridien hotels at Ahmedabad, Kovalam, Jaipur soon Our Bureau
Kochi , Oct. 15 THE luxury global hotel group, Le Meridien Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, announced the addition of three new properties in India on Tuesday — Ahmedabad in Gujarat, Kovalam in Kerala and Jaipur in Rajasthan, making it the country's largest international hotel operator. ``We see India as one of the prime countries for growth and development of our brand", Mr Sami Zoghbi, Le Meridien's Regional Managing Director for Middle East and West Asia (MEWA), said in a faxed statement issued here. ``The addition of these three properties to our portfolio is very much in line with our target to double the number of our properties in the MEWA region by the end of 2004,'' he said. Le Meridien already manages properties in six major gateway cities of the country, Bangalore, Chennai, Cochin, Mumbai, Pune and New Delhi. In Ahmedabad, the 63-room city centre offers a panoramic view of the Sabarmati river, the fax said. ``With the brand promise of the Le Meridien name, the hotel in Ahmedabad has already attracted considerable attention in the market" Mr Shahid Balwa, Chairman of Associated Hotels Ltd, the owners of the new property said. Le Meridien Kovalam Beach Resort is due to open in November this year and is the first Five Star Beach Resort in Kerala, featuring 144 rooms, 40 cottages and four suites in the adjacent Halcyon Castle. The resort, occupying a prime spot in Kerala coast, boasts a health club, an ayurvedic spa, three swimming pools and three restaurants, including a poolside grill and bar. ``Kerala has been gaining global recognition as a beach resort of unspoilt beauty and we are delighted to be able to contribute to its development as a destination for international travellers,'' Mr Mohamed Ali, Chairman of the owning company, Le Meridien Cochin Resort & Conference Centre, said. Finally due to open in December this year is the new 120-room Le Meridien Jaipur, which offers a haven of tranquillity, surrounded by lush green fields and nestled among 13 acres of landscaped gardens. Designed for both business and leisure travellers, the facilities include fully-equipped health club, spa treatment and meditation rooms, 42-set cinema, golf putting green and a penguin club with daily activities for children, the fax said.
