Hyderabad , Feb. 8

AIR-INDIA has received the first consignment of Pochampally `tie and dye' sarees from APCO (Andhra Pradesh State Handloom Weavers' Co-operative Society Ltd), which will be worn by airhostesses on its flights shortly.

The public sector air carrier has placed an Rs 1-crore order with APCO late last year for supply of 6,400 Pochampally silk sarees.

"Air-India's decision will not only encourage the weavers and preserve an age-old tradition but also showcase the brilliant and eye-catching designs of handloom fabrics from the State, Mr G.N. Rao, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of APCO, told a press conference.

The co-operative society is expected to complete the order by March.
