New Delhi , June 7

RELIANCE Industries Ltd's Chairman and Managing Director, Mr Mukesh Ambani, on Monday met the I&B Minister, Mr S. Jaipal Reddy, to discuss convergence, a key business area for the group.

With Reliance Infocomm laying over 120,000 km of info highway across the country, the company has been looking at offering television, Internet and telephone services at affordable rates.

The Reliance chief is understood to have told the Minister that the company has been trying to achieve an acceptable technology at an affordable cost. And according to the model it has worked out, a consumer could get these at about Rs 500 per month. However, the company is working towards bringing it down to Rs 300 a month. Sources in Reliance said that the company hopes to offer all these services through a single set-top box using wireless technology.

Meanwhile, the Government has sought suggestions from the Reliance head on issues related to convergence.
