Market Shares Info-Tech - Storage Samsung introduces India-specific packs for storage media devices Our Bureau
Kolkata , July 16 SAMSUNG Corporation, which has a 27 per cent share of the Indian market for branded storage media devices, today introduced India-specific innovative packs with a view to countering the gray market segment. Stating this at a news conference held here, the Country Head of Samsung Corporation, Mr Rajiv Gupta, said the grey segment accounts for nearly 75 per cent of the total market for storage media devices such as floppies, CDs and DVDs. In terms of volumes, the total storage media devices segment has been pegged at 500 million pieces annually. Of this, the branded segment comprises 120 million pieces valued at around Rs 250 crore. In India, Samsung's storage media devices are imported and distributed exclusively by the Kolkata-based Veeline Media Ltd. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Anil Gupta, Managing Director of Veeline Media Ltd, said the products would be retailed through the company's expanding sales network that also sells audio tapes manufactured by the company. With the introduction of new packs, Samsung's share of the storage media devices market was expected to go up to 32 per cent in the current fiscal. This would translate into incremental sales of Rs 15 crore-Rs 18 crore. The new packs that have been introduced include ejector cases, slider packs, wooden boxes and leather cases. These packs have been created not just for retail usage but for gifting purposes as well, Mr Gupta said.
