Trends Variety - Sports Corporate cricket in Mumbai
Over 1,000 executives representing 90 companies have confirmed participation in this amateurs-only event, conducted in limited-over format over weekends at Western Railway stadium, Mahalaxmi. ING Vyasa Bank is the co-sponsor, while Cadbury India and ING Vyasa Mutual Fund are associate sponsors. Teams will vie for competitions in three categories - Open, Seniors Cup and Super Cup, according to Mr Sanjiv Saran Mehra of Saran Presents. Cricket clinics for corporate kids, named the Cadbury Bournvita Clinics, will also be held for the first time on weekends. Participants can avail themselves of basic body-mass analysis on the spot to gauge their fitness. Mr Anand Deo, Vice-President of Cadilla Healthcare, said that Cricket 7s sponsorship is to the extent of Rs 9 lakh. Launched in 1997 with 23 teams, the event attracted an entry in Limca Book of Records as the longest, largest corporate 7s cricket tournament. Competing sides this year include ABN Amro, Citibank, Coca Cola, Ernst & Young, HDFC, Hindustan Lever, HSBC, KMPG, Proctor & Gamble, MTV, Thomas, Tata Sons, and Star TV.Mr Saran said: "In the fast-paced corporate world, where bigwigs are zooming ahead, Cricket 7s serves as a stress-free forum in a relaxed environment, away from the pressures of the busy, chaotic workplace."
