Cultivation AP: New project to keep focus on irrigation Our Bureau
Hyderabad , Aug. 22 ENTHUSED by the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh's assurance of Centre's support for State projects, the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajaseskhara Reddy, has created Project Bata that seeks to bring in sustained focus on irrigation projects. The Chief Minister will visit various irrigation project sites to ensure faster implementation of the projects. During his visit to these sites, the Chief Minister plans to review the progress of land acquisition, clear bottlenecks, if any, and ensure faster completion of the process. He would assess whether the works are progressing as per the reports submitted by the project officials. According to a statement from the Chief Minister's Office, Dr Reddy plans to discuss with engineers the design aspect of the project, the extent of areas that would be submerged and the rehabilitation package, which is essential to ensure smooth execution of the project. Expressing concern about the colossal waste of water (about 1450 tmc ft) from the Krishna and Godavari river systems that goes untapped into the seas, Dr Manmohan Singh, shared the concern of the State Government and invited the Chief Minister to hold talks with Central Government experts on the issue and to ensure that it is harnessed. While ensuring appropriate compensation for the displaced, both monetarily and by way of alternative physical property, the Chief Minister is expected to interact directly with representatives of local organisations, social activists and members of the media to elicit their views.
