Deposit mobilisation

This refers to "Banks rejig rates to cash in on festival season" (Business Line, August 23). Market transaction is a new concept that can be tried by banks.

As more money is pumped into the equity market, banks can use this as an opportunity to expand their customer base.

Many banks have started maintaining depository accounts.

As the banking sector is preparing for a take-off to meet global challenges, the Reserve Bank of India and the Indian Banks Association should consider permitting banks to engage in the share broking business.
