Telecommunications Surana Telecom power cable unit commissioned Our Bureau
Hyderabad , May 5 Surana Telecom Ltd has commissioned the phase one of its power cable plant, which has been set up with an outlay of Rs 15 crore and has acquired land in the Hardware Park near here for their telecom assembly line. The Managing Director of Surana Telecom, Mr Narender Surana, told Business Line that this was part of the company's diversification plan as the demand for jelly filled cables had come down due to increased mobile phone usage. "However, the demand for power cables has gone up significantly and this project seeks to tap into this market. The construction activity is on the upswing. We expect this to contribute about Rs 50 crore in revenue in a full year of operation, once the entire range of products are manufactured in the plant. While we have begun producing cables of certain specifications, we will expand to other cables as well," he said. The power cable project will manufacture cables up to 33 KV. On May 4, the plant was commissioned. This includes manufacture of conductors.
HARDWARE PARK
Surana Telecom has been allotted 2.5 acres of land by the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) in the new Hardware Park, poised to come up near the International Airport project. It is gearing up to set up a facility for assembly of telecom equipment and gear. This would involve total investment of Rs 10 crore and is likely to be commissioned before this fiscal end. Both the projects have been developed through internal accruals, Mr Surana said.
