HP showcases new devices in China

Beijing , Aug 29

Hewlett-Packard sought to stand tall, beside the Wall. The HP Asia Pacific Fall 2006 Consumer Launch - InTouch event in China on Tuesday showcased user-driven technology experience, be it notebook computers, printers, scanners or hand-held devices.

Against the backdrop of the Great Wall of China, at the exotic Commune venue, the company launched a blitzkrieg to "break down barriers in the home."

Mr Christopher Morgan, Senior Vice-President (Imaging and Printing Group), HP Asia Pacific and Japan, detailed HP's market position in various product sectors.

Going forward, there are over 70 new innovative products to strengthen HP's printing technology.

He talked of the supplies driving HP's printing business and the company's initiatives in the home printing, retail and online spaces.

Mr Richard Walker, Senior Vice-President for Consumer PC Global Business Unit, Personal Systems Group, talked of HP's Media Centre PC.

HP's digital home aims at providing a central network storage so that all the content in different machines around the house can be stored and shared from a central device.

The aim is "to aggregate the content you care about. It doesn't matter where it is, you must be able to enjoy it from a single interface. HP's strategy is round this."

At the event, HP showcased a networked home with multiple PCs and notebooks. It unveiled a slew of products, including Pocket Media drives, four new notebooks, a new line of photo printers based on scalable printing technology, including the world's "fastest printer that prints in 12 seconds," and new printer supplies.

It highlighted innovation in various categories, including HP Advanced Photo Paper that gives colour photo prints that dry instantly and are waterproof.

In the course of the day, at one-to-one sessions with newspersons, HP executives talked of the company's plans for the Asia-Pacific and India.
