Plan panel for higher household power tariffs

Our Bureau

New Delhi , Oct. 4

The Planning Commission has suggested charging higher electricity tariffs for households, in line with the rates being charged for commercial establishments.

"A certain number of units of electricity can be given free to households. Anything beyond that can be charged at par with the commercial establishments," Planning Commission Deputy Chairman, Mr Montek Singh Ahluwalia, said at a workshop on `Energy Efficiency in Buildings and Building Codes' here on Wednesday.

He said the Power Ministry should evolve ways of rationalising on the energy-pricing front.
