Out of over 1-lakh laboratories in India only 70 to 80 are accredited, says the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration of Laboratories (NABL). With clinical research to grow in a big way in the country, issues of quality control requirements need to be addressed urgently, feels the industry and the Government bodies such as the Quality Council of India (QCI) and NABL.
At a seminar organised by Bio-Rad Laboratories (India) Pvt Ltd a California-based manufacturer and distributor of life science research products and clinical diagnostics that's been operating in the country since 1997 QCI and NABL issues were addressed by Dr B.K. Rana, Deputy Director QCI, and representatives of Bio-Rad Labs.
According to Mr Dhiren Wagle, Country Manager, Bio-Rad Labs (India), the company is looking forward to outperforming the diagnostic market, which it says is growing at 15 to 20 per cent. But with so few accredited labs the company has felt the need to work on raising quality control concerns, in a series of four seminars held across Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and New Delhi.
