Decision soon on Tatas' VSNL stake

Our Bureau

New Delhi, Feb. 7

The Tata Group will take a decision on its option to buy the Government's 26.1 per cent stake in VSNL by end of the week. Going by the current valuations, Tata will have to cough up over Rs 3,600 crore to acquire the stake though the price will be decided later. Tata had time till February 12 to exercise its right as per the purchase agreement signed with the Government five years ago when it picked up 25 per cent stake in the long distance services company.

Tata now has about 50 per cent stake in VSNL and has time till the end of the week to increase that.
