Info-Tech - IPR
FICCI for software IPR protection

Our Bureau

Mumbai March 30 To fight rampant counterfeiting and infringement of intellectual property rights that affects the software industry, the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry has expanded the scope of its Brand Protection Committee (BPC) to include software.

The chamber will drive greater understanding and appreciation of original software and respect for IPR among consumers, resellers and various government agencies.

BPC's charter is to fight spurious products, namely counterfeit and pass-offs or look-alike products such as consumer goods, OTC drugs and cosmetics so as to allow consumers to enjoy the benefits associated with original products. This also means that brands of owners are protected.

BPC will engage in education activities to help customers and resellers appreciate the value of original software .

BPC will also take legal recourse against offenders.
