NeST setting up electronic hardware park

Our Bureau

Kochi April 8 The Kerala-based NeST group will set up a world-class electronic hardware park at nearby Kalamassery in association with Kinfra with Special Economic Zone status.

The Kerala Industries Minister, Mr Elamaram Kareem, will lay the foundation stone for the park at a function on April 9 to be presided over by the Minister for Fisheries and Registration, Mr S. Sharma.

Announcing this, the Chairman of the group, Dr Javad Hassan, said, "It has been NeST's vision that Kochi should have a world-class hardware manufacturing park utilising NeST's global experience in this sector for the past 16 years."

Though India has made substantial progress in harnessing the potential of global information technology business, the country could not make an impact so far in the hardware-manufacturing sector.

China, he said, is the significant global player in this sector.

Now the situation was slowly changing and India was gaining attention as a global electronic manufacturing location, he said.

According to Dr Hassan one of the major limitations in attracting hardware manufacturing industry to Kerala is lack of world-class hardware manufacturing park with associated infrastructure for ancillary industries and training facilities. NeST is one of the very few companies in the country, which has focussed on manufacturing sector creating their own infrastructure at Kochi Special Economic Zone to develop globally competitive electronic manufacturing from Kerala, he said.

"We intend to adopt eco-friendly, solar powered infrastructure for this park," said Mr N. Jahangir, Managing Director, NeST group. The park with 10 sq ft of manufacturing space would partially support NeST Group's ambitious growth plan as well as attract potential investors from outside besides creating a total employment potential for 12,000 people during the next five years, he added.
