10-fold fee hike for Nasscom top 3 members

Our Bureau

Chennai May 30 The annual membership fee for each of the top three members of Nasscom (National Association of Software and Service Companies) has increased ten-fold to around Rs 60 lakh, according to Mr Lakshmi Narayanan, Chairman, Nasscom.

The top three companies are: Infosys, TCS and Wipro, which have a turnover of over Rs 10,000 crore.

For other companies, including small and medium size enterprises, there will be a marginal increase in the annual fee, he said at the seminar.

Mr Narayanan said the substantial increase in the fee for the three big companies was to reduce the burden on other companies in their trade development initiatives.

For instance, Nasscom needs to lobby on visa-related issues with various countries, especially the US, and appoint research companies such as McKinsey and Booz Allen for studies on industry-related topics. This costs it a lot of money, which now will be borne mostly by large companies, he said.

Nasscom, with over 1,100 members, is the premier trade body and the chamber of commerce of the IT software and services industry in India.
