Hyderabad, June 19

The Andhra Pradesh Government has asked the officials to talk with the professional bodies associated with information technology (IT) and IT-enabled services on the issue of bringing these sectors into the tax net. Announcing this here after a review meting on the activities of the departments on Tuesday, Mr Konathala Ramakrishna, Minister for Commercial Taxes, said the officials had also been asked to study the models and policies evolved by Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra on the issue. The State Government had mooted the idea of levying taxes on the fastest growing sector about six months ago. Subsequently, the State appointed a high-level committee to study the issue. Meanwhile, the department has registered collections of Rs 2,731 crore in May, up by Rs 537 crore in the same month last year.
