Satyam expanding manufacturing practice

Hyderabad, Nov. 15 IT solutions provider Satyam Computer Services is further consolidating its manufacturing practice, the company’s single largest business, by adding new service streams and establishing more centres of excellence.

While the company’s automotive manufacturing hub is based out of Chennai, its aerospace and defence design services are located in Bangalore. It is now creating manufacturing process industry base in Hyderabad, while also adding aerospace related services.

The Director and Senior Vice-President, Manufacturing & Automotive Business Group, Mr Subu D. Suramanian, said globally the enterprise software business is passing through a transition from custom-made software to enterprise-wide software and to a more services driven business.

As they transition, Satyam, through its manufacturing practice, is expanding the range of services to cover new areas. "As a part of the growth strategy, we have inducted over 100 business process consultants from some of the global consultancy services firms to help enterprises architect new business delivery approach,” he told Business Line.

The new areas would cover investments in R&D and a Centre of Excellence. The focus is on helping enterprises understand rapidly changing environment and how some of the new technology solutions would help them better manage their assets, he said.

The company now has over 25 per cent of its revenues coming from manufacturing practice and has about 150 customers, of which 60 are Fortune 500 companies. The line-up includes GM, Ford, Nissan in automotive, Airbus and Bombardier and Nestle and Unilever and Du Pont.
