IronPort to focus on R&D in India

Our Bureau

Bangalore, Jan. 24 IronPort Systems, a security software maker, aims to focus on research and development activities in India and plans to increase their headcount 10 times to 300 employees.

The San Bruno, California-based IronPort specialises in appliances and related software to handle security for messaging, solutions that wrap in enterprise spam and spyware protection. The company was acquired by Cisco systems in 2007 for $830 million.

IronPort Vice-President and General Manager, Mr Scott Weiss, told Business Line that their India operation is as productive as their centre in California. The Indian team would be responsible for product lines, he added.

Development

Mr Weiss said small and medium business e-mail security product would be the first to be brought to India for development and depending on its success, other e-mail and Web-security appliances would be sent to India for development. The best way to get and retain talent is by offering interesting work and the pinnacle for good job is developing new products, he said. Mr Weiss also said Cisco Systems would soon announce an India-specific product, but declined to give more details about it.

However, recruiting is a challenge in India, he said. He added that they have nearly 8-12 rounds of interviews to recruit a suitable candidate. Mr Weiss said the company organises management training programmes for its employees in India by expatriates to ensure efficiency.
