Telecommunications Marketing - Market Shares Sony Ericsson plans to increase market share
Our Bureau New Delhi, Jan. 24 Mobile handset maker Sony Ericsson on Thursday said it plans to make 10 million mobile phones in India by 2009. In a bid to take a larger share of the booming mobile phones market in the country, Sony Ericsson is also increasing the number of exclusive outlets from the current 58 to 300 by the end of the year. There are nearly 6 million new GSM mobile phone users being added every month and handset makers such as Sony Ericsson are looking to increase their share in a market dominated by Nokia. “We started manufacturing in India in February 2007 and we are planning to increase the number of models that we make here to six from four,” said Mr Sudhin Mathur, General Manager of Sony Ericsson Mobile Communication India. The company will also expand its research and development team in India. Sony Ericsson also launched two new handsets made in India specifically for the Indian market. “The Sony Ericsson R300i and R306i are made for the Indian market, and with the new radio designs and experience, we are confident that they will be well received by consumers,” said Mr Lennard Hoornik, Head of Asia Pacific for Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications.
