Our Bureau

Mumbai, April 5 Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has signed yet another a multi-year contract with Chrysler to provide the auto company information technology related services, it is learnt.

This is in addition to the contract TCS signed with Chrysler in February this year for similar portfolio of services, including application and maintenance services to the overseas company.

Part of the work for Chrysler will be done out of TCS’ new office in Cincinnati, said an official from the company.

The IT services initiative will encompass a portion of the functional areas within Chrysler, such as Sales and Marketing and Shared Services, the company had said of the February deal. Mr N. Chandrasekaran, Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer, TCS, said in February: “The expertise and in-depth knowledge of the automotive industry and Chrysler’s business, coupled with our ability to deliver certainty of results will provide sustained value to Chrysler.”

The automotive industry is one of the focus markets for the TCS Manufacturing vertical which accounted for 15.1 per cent of TCS’ financial year 2007 $4.3-billion global revenues. TCS provides services to many of the automotive OEMs and tier I Companies in North America, Europe and Japan.

Agencies reported that Chrysler LLC would cut 200 salaried workers and a number of contract workers in information technology management related functions. This is part of the company’s restructuring plan.
