Convergence Variety - Entertainment & Leisure Nazara to launch 10 interoperable games Adith Charlie Mumbai, June 19 Hooked on to your chess game on the Internet, sitting in Mumbai, you may soon realise you are competing with a mobile phone wielding bloke from Dubai. Or a German-speaking grandpa who is expertly using his television set to combat you! City-based mobile valued added services company Nazara Technologies intends to launch 10 new games (in the current calendar year) that will allow gamers on Internet, mobile phones and direct to home television (DTH) to compete with each other. The first game to be interoperable across the three platforms will be Viswanathan Anand Mobile Chess Club, a virtual chess club for which Nazara has exclusive licenses, said Mr Nitish Mittersain, the company’s Chief Executive Officer. Users can take part in the game by either downloading it on their mobile phone or by playing it on their DTH sets. They will also be able to play it on the company portal, nazara.com, which will enable online gaming going forward. “All three platforms will be connected to the same cloud, thereby enabling them to talk to each other. We believe we are the first in India to do so,” said Mr Mittersain. Tie-up plansThe company is about three months away from the first pilot of its interoperable game going live. Nazara intends to tie up with DTH players and mobile carriers for this service in the near future, added Mr Mittersain. However, the company will only churn out ‘turn’ based games (such as chess and other board games) and not real time games due to comparatively slow mobile networks in the country.
