New virus variant spreading

Coimbatore, June 20

Websense Security Labs has detected the rapid spread of a new Storm Variant, which through e-mail lures links to malicious sites. These sites, according to a release from the Security Labs, aim to draw the attention of the user to the happenings in China – the earthquake that rocked China and the upcoming Olympics in Beijing. The sites speculate that the Beijing Olympics would be ‘under the threat of failure’ because of the recent quake and tricks visitor s to click on to what looks like an embedded flash video player. The visitor is then led to download a malicious executable. The US Computer Emergency Readiness Team has also reported the spread of the new Storm Variant, it said. -
