Jagdevpur, July 14 Pioneer Seeds, a DuPont- owned company, has launched a programme called Uday, an agri-business resource centre, on Monday at Jagdevpur village, 70 km from Hyderabad.

The programme, which will be implemented in Medak, Karimnagar and Nalgonda districts, is aimed at enrolling at least 10,000 farmers and increase the incomes by 30 per cent.

“We have already enrolled 4,000 farmers with small holdings. We will tell them on latest crop management practices and usage of high-yielding varieties,” Mr K.V. Subba Rao, Country Manager of PHI Seeds, said.

Addressing a gathering after the launch, he said the company had roped in two non-governmental organisations, PEACE and Krushi. “The programme will provide sustainable solutions and agronomic knowledge transfer, supply appropriate farm inputs and linkages with the market,” he said.

He said the company would test the model here and learning on the experiences it would replicate the programme elsewhere.

The programme would be implemented in Jagdevpur and Gajwel mandals in Medak district; Bommalaramaram, Illanthukunta and Sircilla mandals in Nalgonda district; and Yellareddypeta in Karimnagar district.

The agribusiness resource centres would work with self-help groups, which would serve as hubs for inputs, services and information for the local farming community.
