Satyam to support football tourney

Our Bureau

Hyderabad, Aug. 5 Satyam Computer today announced it has initiated a national football tournament in India featuring over 4,000 colleges who will compete for Satyam Cup.

The programme kicks off in Kolkata today. Participating teams come from the national capital territory of Delhi and nine states of Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Punjab, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.

The tourney sponsorship reflects Satyam’s efforts to increase its role in football. It is the official IT Services Provider to the FIFA World Cups in 2010 (Johannesburg) and in 2014 (Brazil).

The Satyam Chairman, Mr. B. Ramalinga Raju, in a statement said “creating value for society is an integral part of our business. We believe that contributing to the well being and development of the communities in which we work and live is an extension of everything we do.”

“Our passion to promote football in India has led us to create this exciting intercollegiate tournament, and to inspire our youth to participate,” he said.

Satyam will fly the Football Challenge championship team to South Africa to witness matches at the Confederation Cup next June and July.
