K.V. Kurmanath

Hyderabad, Nov. 16 DQ Entertainment, an animation and gaming content developer, has decided to enter film production, distribution and book publishing activities to open up new streams of revenues.

The company would look at distributing the films, TV serials and videos it co-produced with global and Indian partners.

“The new media division we set up last year has already begun selling some of the films we co-produced,” Mr Tapaas Chakravarti, Chief Executive Officer of DQE, told Business Line.

Publishing

With regard to publishing activity, the company is in talks with Italian publisher Atlantyca to print and publish graphic novels.

“We will print books in States by entering into tie-ups to reduce cost of production,” he said.

“We are coming out with encyclopaedias on Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, West Bengal and North India.

Taking this forward, we are also working on content for local television channels based on the rich cultural, historical and culinary heritage of these regions. To begin with, we will produce 26 episodes in Telugu with an estimated Rs 3.5 lakh for an episode,” Mr Chakravarti said.

The division also began work on converting content for IPTV and distributing the same across various channels.

Regular films

“We are in talks with the West Bengal Government to remake two films of the legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray in Bollywood.

Besides, we will co-produce films replicating our global model where we form alliances with distributors and financial partners,” he added.
