The Hindu Business Line : Truck, bus tyre output up in March

TRUCK and bus tyre production registered a record production level of 8.99 lakh tyres in March 2003, the best production performance in the fiscal year 2002-03.

The production level in this category, which accounts for more than 70 per cent of the turnover of the domestic tyre industry, stood at 7.88 lakh tyres during March 2002 and 8.69 lakh tyres during February 2003.

Exports of truck and bus tyres during March 2003 stood at 1.93 lakh tyres. Exports of truck and bus tyres in February 2003 stood at 1.93 lakh tyres.

According to the latest data released by the Automotive Tyre Manufacturers' Association (ATMA), passenger car tyre production in March 2003 stood at 7.46 lakh tyres. The production level in this category stood at 6.66 lakh tyres in March 2002.
