Macmillan, Shaw Wallace pen stories of unsung heroes

Hyderabad , April 16

MACMILLAN India Ltd and Shaw Wallace Breweries Ltd have joined hands to bring out an interesting collection of stories of successful men and women under the title "Knock Out Challenges".

The first, in a series of books planned by Macmillan tries to highlight the lives of people who have in their own right knocked out challenges. Published in regular paperback, the personalities written about in the book have been selected by a panel of judges, said Mr Mohanakrishnan, Vice-President (South), Macmillan India.

Noted animal rights activist and founder of Blue Cross of Hyderabad, Ms Amala Akkineni, who released the book on Friday also felicitated one of the city's own achievers — Ms Sridevi, a national handball player, who despite her achievements finds herself working as a domestic help to supplement her family income.

``Life can be beautiful and cruel too. Taking the bad times and resolving to succeed at any cost is the biggest challenge. I hope books like this which capture grit, determination and success will inspire more people,'' she said in response.

The book profiles some well and other less-known people like astronaut Ms Kalpana Chawla, tabla maestro Mr Ustad Allarakha, super cop Ms Kiran Bedi, Amul man Dr Verghese Kurien, filmmaker Mr Mahesh Bhatt, politician Mr Shrikant Jichkar, danseuse-actress Ms Sudha Chandran, actor Mr Manoj Bajpai, environmentalist Mr Iqbal Malik, writer Ms Sharada Dwivedi, besides computer wiz Mr Krishnakant Mane, educationist Mr Bobby, IAS officer Mr Nitin Jawale and record-holder Mr Suresh Sharma.

Mr Mohanakrishnan said there are many unsung heroes, who carry on fighting silently odds, rejection, handicap and many challenges to finally succeed. In the series of books planned such people would be identified and profiled.

The book would be available at all leading bookstores through Macmillan distribution network.
