A global survey of corporate IT systems by security company Fortinet has found that BYOD (bring your own device) users pose serious security risks.

The survey of 3,800 employees aged 21 to 31 in 15 countries (including 209 from India), found that 84 per cent of Indian respondents bring their own devices and 65 per cent think that it is a right and not a privilege.

Commenting on the survey, Ms Patrice Perche, Senior Vice-President of International Sales and Support for Fortinet said, “While users want and expect to use their own devices for work, mostly for personal convenience, they do not want to hand over responsibility for security on their own devices to the organisation. Within such an environment, organisations must regain control of their IT infrastructure by strongly securing both inbound and outbound access to the corporate network and not just implement MDM (mobile device management).”
