Yelavarthy Nayudamma Memorial Award 2014 will be conferred jointly on two women scientists here on Sunday at 6.30 p.m at N.R.S Kalyana Kala Sadan, according to a press release issued by P. Vishnu Murthy, the founder and managing trustee of Dr. Y. Nayudamma Memorial Trust.

He said in a press release here on Friday that Tessy Thomas, the Director of Advanced Systems Laboratory, DRDO, Hyderabad, and Geeta Varadan, the Director of Advanced Data Processing Research Institute, ISRO, Secunderabad, will jointly receive the award on Sunday from the hands of Shantha Sinha, the founder of Mamidipudi Venkatarangaiya Foundation.

He said Tessy Thomas would deliver a lecture on the topic - "Make in India - defence needs and initiatives." Geeta Varadan will deliver a lecture on harnessing remote sensing technologies for national needs.

The late Nayudamma, the renowned scientist and the former director of the Central Leather Research Institute in Chennai, died in the Kanishka air crash in 1985 and the award was instituted in his name. He was born at a small village, Yelavarru, near Tenali in Guntur district.

Vishnu Murthy said the award was being conferred on the two women scientists for their outstanding contributions in the fields of missile technology and remote sensing.
