About 20 per cent of the cable television users have opted for digitisation so far in Kolkata.

According to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s (TRAI) mandate, all households using cable TV in the four metros have to install set-top boxes by October 31. The earlier deadline of July 1 was extended by TRAI.

“Of the estimated 35 lakh households, which are to be digitised now, nearly six to seven lakh households have installed set-top boxes in Kolkata so far,” Anjali M Nanda, Executive Vice-President – Marketing, Dish TV, told reporters here on Wednesday.

She was here to launch its new “70 free-to-air channels for life time” offer.

The offer will allow consumers to watch these FTA channels without subscribing for the pay channels for a period of five years.

According to Nanda, the digitisation process in Kolkata was quite slow unlike other metros.

It was quite successful in Delhi with nearly 68 per cent digitisations, she added.
