Bajaj Auto Dec 2014 motorcycles sales fall 6%

Bajaj Auto Ltd has witnessed a 6 per cent decline in motorcycles' sales during December 2014 compared to the corresponding month in the previous year.

Its cumulative sales during the first nine months of current fiscal also shows that the motorcycle sales had edged up by just one per cent whereas the sale of commercial vehicles had surged by 21 per cent during the nine month period in the current FY.

In its filings to the stock exchanges, BAL said that the company sold 2,46,233 motorcycles during December 2014 as against 2,60,645 units in December 2013, a fall of 6 per cent. The sale of CVs was up by 16 per cent to 43,011 during Dec last year as against 37,131 units in Dec 2013. The total sales however fell by 3 per cent to 2,89,244 units in Dec 2014 (2,97,776).

The exports (out of the above sales) were up by 10 per cent to 1,66,134 units during last month as against 1,50,753 units in the corresponding month in 2013, marking the highest ever exports for any Dec for BAL.

Reflecting the tough market situation, the cumulative motorcycle sales for BAL in the first nine months of current fiscal was up by just one per cent to 26,19,115 units as against 25,97,112 units in the corresponding period in the previous fiscal. But the sales of commercial vehicles surged by 21 per cent to 4,09,417 units as against 3,37,183 units in the corresponding period in the earlier fiscal.

The total sales were up by 3 per cent and exports had gone up by 22 per cent during April-Dec 2014-15 FY compared to the corresponding period in the previous fiscal.

Shares of BAL were trading at ₹2,457, up by ₹2.90, on the BSE.
