The Tea Board has announced that the average price for purchase of green leaf by the factories from small growers in the Nilgiris will be ₹14 a kg in February. The Assistant Director of Tea Development B Pagalavan has instructed all bought-leaf tea factories to adhere to this price while buying the green leaf till February 28.
He has instructed all field officers of Tea Board to ensure that no factory in their jurisdiction paid lower than this district average price while buying green leaf. This is the highest price of the last nine months. The average price was ₹13 in January.
However, it was ₹17 a kg in February 2017.
