The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) has drawn up plans to boost its revenues through parcel and courier services, according to its Executive Director (Commercial) G Sashidhar.

He told reporters here on Wednesday that since 1985, the APSRTC had been giving the contract to ANL for parcel services. However, the contract was terminated and the corporation started its parcel and courier services on its own.

“ANL was paying us ₹9 crore every year under the contract. But now, since June 2016, APSRTC has so far earned ₹15.48 crore only through parcel and courier services,” he said.

He also said while APSRTC was earning ₹120 crore through various schemes, now efforts were on to earn as much as ₹100 crore through the parcel services alone. Door delivery facility was also being provided and already 100 personnel have been recruited for the purpose.

Sasidhar said that the freight charges of APSRTC were about 20 per cent cheaper than those of private agencies. Parcel bookings would be accepted at five different places in the city in the near future and they were looking for partners for the purpose, he added.
