Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL) is set to change its name from Bengaluru International Airport to Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru.
The name change will take effect from December 14 and also on the same day the terminal T1A will be inaugurated by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Union Civil Aviation Minister Ajith Singh.
The expanded terminal — spanning over 150,500 sq. mt, will more than double the existing floor area and is designed to accommodate burgeoning traffic at this airport.
This infrastructure addition to Bangalore reflects the growing importance of the city and the state on the global radar, said G.V. Sanjay Reddy, Managing Director, BIAL.
He added that, “The new name honours Kempegowda, founding father of Bangalore and the renaming is being timed with the opening of the T1A where the facilities, radiant interiors and exteriors mirrors the rich culture of Karnataka and the vibrant colours of the Garden City.”
With T1A BIAL wants passengers to experience everything that's unique about Bangalore of yesteryear when he/she enters the airport and at the same time enjoy the benefits of world-class facilities.
