The release of audio tapes with the alleged voice of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu in the 'cash for vote' scandal stole the thunder from 'Maha Sankalpam' here today.

The talk of the town is neither the new capital of AP nor the development agenda but whether Naidu will be able to come clean out of the scandal or not.

Many people, who were present at the venue, were seen discussing the implications of the tapes.

"This is the first that Naidu got fully implicated in a corruption case which seems to be tight," A Rama Krishna, who runs a cold storage in Eluru told BusinessLine here before the commencement of the public meeting.

Some are of the view that AP Chief Minister's obession with Telangana politics did him in.

"Whether the tapes real or fake, it is clear that Naidu is trying to create a hold in Telangana desparately,'' says N Prabhu, a Govt college lecturer in Guntur. He should focus more on AP, he adds.

There is some sympathy too. "The AP Govt is in the hands of Telangana Government in Hyderabad. The Government should be run from here. TDP chief is being targeted," feels a revenue official overseeing the arrangements.

The party leaders, however, are tight-lipped. When asked the mood in the party, its MP Galla Jayadev declined to comment.

In a sting operation last week, TDP MLA Revanth Reddy was arrested by ACB in Hyderabad while he was allegedly luring TRS MLA Stephenson to cast votes in favour of TDP in MLC elections held last week.

Last night the audio tapes with the alleged conversation between Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidue and Stephenson were aired by some channels triggering rumours about his possible arrest in the case.
