Telangana legislator A Revanth Reddy of the TDP, who was arrested late on Sunday on charges of bribery, has been remanded in judicial custody for 14 days by a local court.

Reddy was arrested after a detailed questioning session by the sleuths of the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB). He is being charged for his effort to bribe nominated MLA Elvis Stephenson, seeking his support for the party in the Council election in the State held today. On a petition, the court, however, allowed Reddy to take part in the voting.

Reddy has been accused of seeking the support of Stephenson by bribing him. According to reports, the latter was offered ₹50 lakh, and was promised a total of ₹5 crore for his support.

The cash-for-vote scam, which has been closely tracked and also recorded by the cops, is seen to have far-reaching consequences.

Criminal conspiracy

Reddy has been charged under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act for criminal conspiracy, according to AK Khan, Director General of ACB.

On a complaint by Stephenson, Reddy, B Sebasitan Harry and Uday Simha were questioned by the ACB last night and produced before the magistrate and remanded.

Embarrassed by the developments, the TDP sought to accuse the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) of trying to frame Reddy.

Reddy and his party colleagues contended that the conspiracy was hatched by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, as Reddy has been voicing concerns against the State government.
