“The supreme truth is man, there is nothing more important than him.” Based on this theme , a city-based art gallery, Gallerie Creative Strokes, has come up with an exhibition, Sathraangi (meaning VIBGYOR), that promotes artefacts by transgenders.
Sathraangi is also supported by many other NGOs which is into women’s rights.
Consisting of paintings, jewellery, handicrafts and ceramic work, the exhibition was inaugurated on August 16 and will be on for 10 days till August 26. These artefacts share the space alongside the regular ones at the gallery.
According to Laila Sanyal, Curator, Gallerie Creative Strokes, the idea of Sathraangi is equality and “bridging the social divide” that exists with regards to the third gender. It doesn't matter what your sexuality is.We will be showcasing handicraft products by the ‘Trans And Woman’ and look to bridge the divide that exists regarding the third gender,” she said.
So far, the exhibition has earned positive response from the audience and Sanyal points out that a second lot of items like handkerchiefs, bags, juice glasses, candles etc are the most preferred products.
“Even after the exhibition is over, our gallery will have a dedicated space to display artefacts by the transgenders,” she maintained.
The artefacts by the third gender are priced between Rs 75 and Rs 550.
