Haleem-maker Pista House has announced plans to offer the delicacy across the country and in some select markets in West Asia, the US, and parts of Europe.

Haleem is offered from the first sighting of the crescent moon, which marks the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan.

It is a scrumptious concoction of whole wheat and finely-pounded lamb meat, which is meticulously cooked for more than 12 hours. It is dribbled in pure and aromatic spices and garnished with a layering of pure ghee, dry fruits, coriander leaves, and crispy fried onions.

MA Majeed, Managing Director, Pista House, said: “Pista House Haleem will be available not just in Hyderabad, but across India, the US, several countries in the Gulf, and parts of Europe.”

Pista House’s haleem has become the first non-vegetarian recipe in India to be accorded the Geographical Indication (GI) status by the Government of India, which means no other city/State can make or market haleem as Hyderabadi haleem.

Haleem will now be enriched with Chakhao, the famous black rice from Manipur, which was once reserved for the Chinese royal family .

Haleem will also be available at the domestic and international air terminals at Hyderabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and at select Metro Rail stations in Hyderabad.

Bhanu Pratap Singh, CEO of North-East Foundation, which has partnered with Pista House, said: “Black rice is extremely rich in antioxidants, fiber, iron, vitamin E, and has anti-carcinogenic characteristics. Regular consumers will benefit from its health boosters and higher nutritional value.”
