HC extends interim order on pump licences

Our Legal Correspondent

KOLKATA, Aug. 19

MR Justice P.C. Ghose of the Calcutta High Court today extended the interim order passed on August 14 staying the operation of the direction of Prime Minister with regard to cancellation of petro-product distributorship granted from January 2000 until further orders.

The Court directed to file affidavit and the matter would be heard four weeks hence.

A group of petroleum dealers filed separate writ petitions in the High Court challenging the direction of the Prime Minister to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas to cancel all licences granted from January 2000 till date.

By taking advantage of this direction, oil companies tried to cancel the licences, but the Court prevented that and also ordered that if any oil company had taken a decision terminating the licences, it too would not be given effect to that decision.
